The Onyx Bangle is handcrafted in 14k gold plated brass and finished with hand painted black enamel. A black pear shaped onyx is set as a heart at the front and pierced with a single white diamond, with the inscription "As Above So Below, As Within So Without" worked in relief lettering around the band. It is a rigid closed bangle that slides over the hand onto the wrist.
The inscription is the Hermetic axiom from the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus, the principle that the heavens and the earth answer to one another and that the inner world mirrors the outer. In that tradition the line marks the correspondence between the great and the small, the celestial pattern repeated in the human soul.
The onyx set at the heart brings grounding and a sense of the hidden, the dark stone holding the lower, earthly pole of the inscription. The white diamond piercing it adds the point of light from above, so the two together carry the meeting of the concealed and the revealed that the words name.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and her collections have been carried by luxury department stores worldwide. She has made custom pieces for musicians and royalty such as Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Uma Thurman and more. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as a modern talisman, contemporary relic, spiritual protection and alignment and healing.
