The Onyx Cabochon Ring is a cocktail ring in 14k gold plated brass. A large oval black onyx cabochon sits in a beaded gold bezel, framed by a border of black enamel set with small gold stars and dots, on a wide polished tapered band. The stone is cut as a cabochon, the smooth domed cut used before faceting existed, so the onyx holds its black as a deep mirror polish rather than sparkle. Each piece is handcrafted entirely by hand.
Onyx was the stone of Roman signet rings, carved into seals because it takes and keeps an edge like no other, and soldiers wore it into battle engraved with Mars for courage. It has always been the stone of resolve, worn not to attract but to hold, the old lapidaries prescribing it for steadiness under pressure and release from what binds. On this ring the black stone becomes a dark mirror, and the black enamel border with its small gold stars completes the image, a night sky circling a stone of night, the gold points reading like constellations against both. Where a pale stone opens the hand, onyx grounds it.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and her collections have been carried by luxury department stores worldwide. She has made custom pieces for Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Courtney Cox, and Uma Thurman. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as spiritual armour, modern talisman, and contemporary relic, made for protection, healing, and spiritual alignment.
