A unisex crest signet in gold plated silver. The round face is struck like a wax seal, a crowned skull at the center ringed by worn lettering with a second small crown below, and a pair of rubies set as the eyes.
The skull is the old memento mori, carried in rings and seals since the Renaissance, worn not to mourn but to keep the wearer awake to the passing of time. The crown above it points to what stands higher than thought, the will that governs the mind, and to the idea that the deepest light waits inside the descent, so that remembering the end becomes a way of choosing life. The rubies at the eyes hold courage, vitality and the strength of the heart.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. A multiple award winning designer highly recognised as an accessory and jewelry designer, her work has been featured in Vogue, W Magazine, Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar, and Elle across numerous countries, and carried by the world's most prestigious luxury stores including Lane Crawford, Bergdorf Goodman, H Lorenzo, United Arrows, Isetan, Le Bon Marché, Matches, and Harvey Nichols. She has made custom pieces for musicians and royalty such as Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Uma Thurman and more. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as a modern talisman, contemporary relic, spiritual protection, alignment and healing.
