The Skull Crest Signet is handcrafted in sterling silver. The round signet face is struck like a wax seal, a crowned skull at the center ringed by worn lettering and a second small crown below. Set into the shoulders on either side of the face are small emeralds and rubies, three of each, flush along the band.
The skull is the old memento mori, the reminder of mortality carried in rings and seals since the Renaissance, not to mourn but to hold the wearer present to the passage of time.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and her collections have been carried by luxury department stores worldwide. She has made custom pieces for musicians and royalty such as Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Uma Thurman and more. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as a modern talisman, contemporary relic, spiritual protection and alignment and healing.
