The Heart Necklace centers on a puffed heart in 14k gold plated black enamel, set in a lattice of gold star settings each holding a black diamond across the face. It hangs from a handmade gold plated link chain with black enamel along the links, closing with a clasp at 28 inches, 71 cm. A different chain can be requested.
The heart stands for love and remembrance, and the black enamel draws on the Victorian memento mori tradition. The black diamonds set across it are associated with strength and protection, dark against the enamel.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin, who trained at Fendi and Tod's in Italy before working across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. Her collections are carried by luxury department stores worldwide, with custom pieces made for musicians and royalty including Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, and Uma Thurman. Each piece is made entirely by hand in the old artisanal methods, drawing on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols, and treats jewelry as a modern talisman and contemporary relic for protection, healing, and alignment.
