The Horseshoe Chain Cuff is a rigid open band in 14k gold plated brass formed as two parallel cable chains, with a horseshoe charm hanging from the end of the cuff, its arc prong set with alternating white diamonds and blue sapphires. The band is open at the back and slides onto the wrist.
The horseshoe hangs open downward, in the direction of giving. Giving is never named as kindness but as justice, the duty of the heart and the act by which a person is purified, because what we hold is entrusted to us and never owned, and a portion of it was assigned from the beginning to the one who has less. To give is to set right what had become uneven, restoring the balance rather than performing a favour. The one who receives does more for the giver than the giver does for them. Blue sapphire is the stone of the throne and of clear sight, and the white diamonds beside it are the light that does not dull, the two alternating along the arc so that what is above and what is given below are set in the same line.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and her collections have been carried by luxury department stores worldwide. She has made custom pieces for musicians and royalty such as Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Uma Thurman and more. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as a modern talisman, contemporary relic, spiritual protection, alignment and healing.
