The Virgin Mary Cuff is handcrafted around a Virgin Mary figure in solid sterling silver, framed by a hand shaped open wire band in 14k gold plated brass. The halo is set with rubies that ring the head. The figure was first modeled in Paris in 2007. The band is rigid and open at the back so it slides over the wrist.
The Virgin Mary is one of the oldest devotional figures in Western iconography, carried for centuries as a sign of compassion, intercession, and protection of the bearer. Silver has long been tied to the moon, to purity, and to reflection, while gold has been linked across traditions to the sun, to endurance, and to what lasts, the two set here as the lunar and solar pair that frames the figure.
The ruby has been prized since antiquity as a stone of vitality, courage, and the heart, worn as a guard against harm and a sign of devotion. Set as the halo the rubies carry these older meanings of protection and the inner flame.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and her collections have been carried by luxury department stores worldwide. She has made custom pieces for Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Courtney Cox, and Uma Thurman. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as spiritual armour, modern talisman, and contemporary relic, made for protection, healing, and spiritual alignment.
