Shark tooth pendant necklace in 14k gold plated brass, a sculpted shark tooth in hand painted light blue enamel, hung from a gold plated link chain at 62 cm, 24 inches, and available at 50 cm, 20 inches. Either length can is adjustable worn.
Across the Pacific cultures where shark teeth were actually worn as talismans - the shark was an aumakua, an ancestor spirit and guardian. The tooth was worn as protection, the ancestor watching over the wearer, guarding against drowning and danger at sea. It was also seen as a power and authority, worn by chiefs and warriors, it signified rank, courage in battle, and the power of the wearer.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin, who previously worked at Fendi and Tod's in Italy. J Dauphin has had creative offices in Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. Johanna Dauphin is a multiple award winning accessory and jewelry designer. She has done custom work for Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Uma Thurman and others. Her jewelry, accessories, and celebrated repurposed vintage jackets are all made by artisanal methods, often incorporating ancient symbols, and she treats jewelry as modern talismans for empowerment, protection, alignment, and healing.
