The Black Enamel Sphere Ring is a cocktail ring in 14k gold plated brass. A black enamel sphere sits atop the band, its engraved with stars, each star set with a diamond in white or black. The sphere rests on a polished gold band inlaid with a line of white enamel, black orb above, white line below.
The sphere is the one form without beginning, end, or edge, which is why it has stood for completeness in every tradition that used it, from the alchemists' perfect body to the orb held in a ruler's hand. Scattered with stars it becomes a small night sky worn on the finger, and the diamonds set into the engraved stars do what stars actually do, some burning white, some collapsed to black, both still points of gravity. The white enamel band beneath plays the horizon to the sphere's night, the Victorian jewelers' old trick of setting darkness against light so each reads stronger, the light is as strongest in the darkness.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and her collections have been carried by luxury department stores worldwide. She has made custom pieces for Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Courtney Cox, and Uma Thurman. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as spiritual armour, modern talisman, and contemporary relic, made for protection, healing, and spiritual alignment.
