The piece is a sphere pendant in silver finished with black enamel and set with stars across its whole surface. Each star is set with a diamond, in white and in black, scattered like a constellation over the dark ground.
The pendant hangs from a silver chain with brass link stations worked into its length. It closes with a lobster clasp and measures 26 inches.
The sphere is one of the oldest figures of the cosmos and of wholeness, the world rendered as an orb and carried in devotional and ceremonial objects across many cultures. Set with stars across a dark ground it reads as the night sky, a field long tied to guidance, fate, and the order of the heavens. Black enamel carries its own history, used through Victorian mourning and memorial jewelry as a sign of remembrance and the passage between worlds.
The white diamond has been associated since antiquity with clarity, endurance, and protection. The black diamond, the same carbon in darker form, has been read as a stone of grounding and steadiness, worn for fortitude and protection. Set as stars within the black sphere the two together mark light held within darkness.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and her collections have been carried by luxury department stores worldwide. She has made custom pieces for Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Courtney Cox, and Uma Thurman. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as spiritual armour, modern talisman, and contemporary relic, made for protection, healing, and spiritual alignment.
