The Aquamarine Cabochon Ring is a cocktail ring in 14k gold plated brass. A large oval aquamarine cabochon sits in a beaded gold bezel, framed by a border of white enamel set with small gold stars and dots, on a wide polished tapered band. The stone is cut as a cabochon, the smooth domed cut used before faceting existed, so the aquamarine holds its color as a soft even glow rather than sparkle. Each piece is handcrafted entirely by hand.
Roman sailors carried aquamarine to sea as a guarantee of safe passage, and medieval lapidaries wrote that the stone kept its bearer's mind clear in storms, the reasoning being that a stone born of calm water could lend that calm to its owner. That is still the best description of what this stone does on the hand. The white enamel border with its ring of small stars sets the pale blue inside a horizon line, the sea circled by sky, and the milk white against the water blue keeps the whole face of the ring cool while the gold band warms it from below.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and her collections have been carried by luxury department stores worldwide. She has made custom pieces for Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Courtney Cox, and Uma Thurman. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as spiritual armour, modern talisman, and contemporary relic, made for protection, healing, and spiritual alignment.
