The Crystal Quartz Cabochon Ring is a cocktail ring in 14k gold plated brass. A large oval crystal quartz cabochon sits in a beaded gold bezel, framed by a border of white enamel set with small gold stars and dots, on a wide polished tapered band. The stone is cut as a cabochon, the smooth domed cut used before faceting existed, so the quartz holds its clarity as a deep watery glow rather than sparkle. Each piece is handcrafted entirely by hand.
The Greeks called this stone krystallos, ice, because they believed rock crystal was water frozen so completely by the gods that it could never melt again. For centuries it was the seer's stone, ground into the first crystal balls and reading lenses, valued because it does not color what passes through it. Worn on the hand it carries that same quality, a stone that clarifies rather than decorates, and every crystal quartz cabochon holds its own interior landscape of veils and inclusions, so no two rings show the same depths. The white enamel border with its ring of small gold stars sets the clear stone inside a night sky drawn in daylight, and the gold band warms the ice from below.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and her collections have been carried by luxury department stores worldwide. She has made custom pieces for Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Courtney Cox, and Uma Thurman. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as spiritual armour, modern talisman, and contemporary relic, made for protection, healing, and spiritual alignment.
