Virgin Mary medal necklace on a gold plated silver paperclip link chain worn doubled as a layered choker or long at a single length, with two removable pendants: a Virgin Mary medal in gold plated brass set with a tanzanite, and a silver Greek cross finished with a ruby drop at its foot. The chain closes at 31 inches, and both pendants lift off to be worn singly, together, or not at all.
The medal shows the Virgin standing with her hands open and rays falling from them, the moment she is understood to be giving grace to whoever asks, after the design revealed to Saint Catherine Labouré in Paris in 1830 and carried ever since for shelter and intercession. The tanzanite set at its base is the stone of intuition and higher vision, the inner sight that turns toward what is above. Beside it the Greek cross, its four arms equal, is the older sign of the four directions gathered to one centre, wholeness held from every side, and the ruby hung at its foot is the drop of blood, life and sacrifice, the red that devotion is measured in.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin, who previously worked at Fendi and Tod's in Italy. J Dauphin has had creative offices in Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. Johanna Dauphin is a multiple award winning accessory and jewelry designer. She has been featured in Vogue, W Magazine, Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar, and Elle across many countries, and stocked by Lane Crawford, Bergdorf Goodman, H Lorenzo, United Arrows, Isetan, Le Bon Marché, Matches, and Harvey Nichols. She has done custom work for Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Uma Thurman and others. Her jewelry, accessories, and celebrated repurposed vintage jackets are all made by artisanal methods, often incorporating ancient symbols, and she treats jewelry as modern talismans for empowerment, protection, alignment, and healing.
